As in all our projects, we start the work with an analysis of the demands of the clients and the characteristics of the site. Deciding on the appropriate placement of the building inside the plot is essential to achieve a correct distribution inside and outside the home, which allows the different uses with the best conditions for each of them. The conditions of this project were a second home, with pool and outdoor parking for 3 cars.
The house has its main facade open to the south, having in front of it a large space, with sun all day, which will enjoy the pool, terrace and garden. On the west side, in a depressed area with respect to the rest of the site, is the car park and access to the plot. The treatment and disposition of the accesses and the close surroundings achieve the privacy of the outdoor leisure spaces, which are sheltered from the views.
Inside the house, the distribution is linear, going from the most public (day area) to the most private (night area), with the master bedroom in the most private area of the house.
All spaces and rooms enjoy natural lighting and ventilation, and we have taken special care to design spaces that allow cross ventilation, so that the interior temperature of the house is as comfortable as possible, making it possible to reduce the use of the installation of refrigeration systems. This is achieved with the help, too, of the sun protection offered by the cantilevered porch.
The day area -which includes the kitchen, dining area and living room-, is a unique space very open and related to the outside with large balconies, giving the feeling that the outside, the garden, enters the house ; so much so, that when the balconies of the room open, the corner disappears ... we have made "an invention" to prevent the profiles of the carpentry from interfering with the views we have from the inside, and it is more , we even avoided placing a pillar where it would have been "logical" and easy, so that the porch is cantilevered.
Deleting a pillar It is not a fact that it can be decided on site, removing it because it bothers our eyes, as if it were a piece of furniture. This decision must be made and assessed from the project, and involves considering it in the design and calculation of the structure of the house.
Another "missing" pillar is the one that would support the volume of the study, which we left cantilevered over the room.
The versatility of the house has been sought, a sliding door that is hidden, serves to make the night area independent of the day area. The study of the first floor, also enters into the consideration of the day area, so it is directly related to it through the access staircase and the double space. In this way we also avoid the two-storey housing plan, since the study and the upper terrace are understood as an extension of the spaces on the ground floor.
From the living room we have a view and access to both the large outdoor garden and pool area, as well as the open backyard. The arrangement of the staircase will allow a certain privacy of the room at the same time as permeability of vision and access between this space and the backyard, at the same time as with the entrance of the house.
The volume of the first floor is extended creating a covered space in front of the room. The dimensions and configuration of the studio will allow its function as a multipurpose space and even as an additional bedroom.
We have planned the outdoor car park at the level of access to the plot, while the house is higher, according to the existing land. This placement of the car park favors a minimum of excavation, given that the terrain of the plot is above street level. For this reason, we did not see the need for a porch to hide the view of cars from the house or vice versa.
Pedestrian access to the house is made by means of steps that are arranged as platforms giving rise to a pleasant, smooth access and in accordance with the approach of the garden.
